WHY HERE?

Essaouira is a beautiful seaside town giving you the best of everything Morocco has to offer. We’re right on the beach, and it’s a lovely long golden stretch of sand, perfect for walking, horse-riding, surfing, windsurfing and of course, sunbathing.

What can I look forward to?

Things to do in Morocco

Between classes there is so much to do. Take a trip into the desert and witness rural life that hasn’t changed much in hundreds of years. Enjoy some of the many luxurious and affordable Spas and Hammams for a variety of treatments from mud baths, massages and full body scrubs.

Haggle for your bargains in the treasure-troves of market stalls and enjoy walks and swims along the sandy beaches. Take a camel trip, a horse ride or a Quad excursion into the desert or laze with a book in the Riad sipping mint tea and local delicacies and take daytime naps!

Around Essaouira you can ride horses down the beach, go on a camel trek, try out the world class surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing or hang out in a local coffee house with the locals.

In Essaouira there is so much to do. Take a walk around the town and get to know the myriad of streets, lanes and alleys. Bargain for leather goods or watch the belly-dancers. Enjoy a traditional Hammam (steam bath) or eat freshly caught seafood right off the boats.

Or perhaps you want to hang out on one of the terraces on a sunlounger reading a book and getting a tan. Treat yourself to one of the amazing Spas and indulge in a massage before sunset.

Surfing, wind surfing and kite-surfing

With a long Altantic Coast and many long point breaks Morocco is a famous destination among surfers. With a consistent swell and off-shore winds for most of the year it’s no wonder why. There is break for everyone, whether you are a pro or a beginner.

Essaouira is also a famous Windsurfing and Kite-Surfing destination and there are many surf schools offering lessons and rental.

Horse, Quad and Camel riding

You can take a camel trip right on the beach or further into the desert. There are horses you can go out on too in the area, either for a relaxed ride or a gallop down the beach!

Shopping

Essaouira is a shoppers mecca with market stalls lining the medina. Leather is produced locally and hand crafted. There is also beautiful jewellry and you can find just about anything if you look. Argan oil is a local speciality and no trip to Morocco would be complete without returning with your own Tagine! Bargaining is part of the experience and you’ll find the Moroccans to be corteous and fluent in many languages!

Hammam and Spa

No trip to Morocco is complete without a good old scrub down at a Hammam. Much like a Turkish bath, they range from cheap and authentic to luxurious and decadent. There are many beautiful and affordable Spas in town, and prices are apx 30% of what they would be at home for hours of pure heaven!

Tell me about the
accommodation?

For this special retreat you will be staying at the luxury Hotel Dar L’Oussia. Situated right at the entrance to the Medina, this stunning Riad boasts the best location in Essaouira being inside the walls of the Medina (Old City) and right on the beach too. It is elegant, stylish and decadent and the team of professional and friendly staff is on-hand day and night for the duration of your stay.

From the moment you step inside you will feel as if you have arrived into another world. The cool, calm interior is decorated in tasteful art with lush green palms and flowers adorning the atrium.

The rooms are elegantly furnished in contemporary Moroccan style but with modern comforts.

The terrace has one of the best views in Essaouira with full undisturbed beach views, harbour and Medina views. Watching the sunset from up there is simply breathtaking and when the weather suits we will enjoy breakfast on the elegantly presented dining area, in the sun.

faq

I'm travelling alone, does that matter?

It matters not. You can come to get away from everything but there are plenty of opportunities to meet people if you wish. There is an extra charge for single supplement. Contact for details.

When should I book my flights?

As soon as you book your holiday!

What if my flight is arriving very late or departing very early?

It doesn’t matter, we can arrange a transfer for you at any time of the day or night.

Can I share a room with someone?

Where there is another person of the same gender looking to share, we can pair people together. If not, the single supplement is to be paid. Upon booking you can request this and we will make a note of it.

Is it possible to share a transfer with others?

Where possible, we pair people together for transfer. Where it is not possible, it is usually an option to share on the way back when people have got to know each other.

If I arrive in Morocco a few days early, can you still arrange a transfer for me?

Yes, we can arrange a transfer for you, possibly with another guest arriving off a flight. We only arrange transfers from the airport, so you will have to make your own way to the arrivals hall.

What if my flight is delayed?

Your driver will have your flight details and can monitor any delays.

When will I get additional details of what to bring etc?

We will send a pre-departure email with additional details of the trip, 2 weeks before your departure date.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

They are the usual times check in at 2pm and check out at 12pm. However, if your flights arrive or departure a few hours either side of these times we will do everything we can to accommodate you. This isn’t always possible in the peak season, but you will have somewhere to leave your bags.

I'm a female traveller, is there anything I should consider?

We get many women travelling with us on their own and their experience in Morocco is amazing. Women can expect a certain level of harassment when travelling in Morocco, especially in the busiest areas. It comes in the form of nonstop greetings, leering and other unwanted attention, but it is rarely dangerous. Women will save themselves a great deal of grief by avoiding eye contact, dressing modestly and refraining from walking around alone at night.

Are there local customs to look out for that I should know about?

Morocco is a Muslim country and it is preferable to keep the wearing of swimsuits, shorts and other revealing clothing to the beach or hotel poolside. Women travelling alone will receive less hassle if dressed conservatively. Religious customs should be respected, particularly during the month of Ramadan 11th Aug – Sep 9th when eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours should be discreet as it is forbidden by the Muslim culture.

Will I need a visa to visit the country?

Most nationals will not require a visa to visit Morocco, it is free and you get it on arrival.

Are there any passport requirements?

A full passport is required with 6 months remaining validity. It may be wise to have a photocopy of the important page(s) to carry around with you as ID should be presented on request and therefore carried at all times.

Will I need a vaccination to enter Morocco?

No vaccinations are required to enter Morocco. It is advisable to drink bottled water outside the main cities and towns and avoid street food. Medical facilities are good in all major towns. Health insurance is advised

What electrical plug type do I need?

Two pin round plug (220V)

What time zone is Morocco on?

Morocco is on GMT all year.

What's the weather like?

The weather in Morocco is dry and sunny most of the year round which can occasionally get windy so make sure to pack some warmer clothes for times like these. Winter can be cold at night and sunny in the day, so you will need to pack for both conditions. It can rain in winter so bring raingear. Summer, although sunny, gets very windy in Essaouira, so you will need to bring some warm clothes too.

I want to stay extra nights, is that possible?

We can help you to arrange extra nights at all our locations. Please contact us.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes

Do I need to bring a mat with me?

We have mats at all our locations but feel free to bring yours along.
