Italy - Getting There

Overview

Abruzzo has an international airport with daily flights with Ryaniar from London Stansted to Pescara, just under an hour from us by car. The course fee includes airport transfer to and from Pescara on the first & last day of the course.

If Stansted isn't convenient for you it is also easy to reach us via Rome though you will have to arrange onward travel by bus or coach (2-3 hours) to Abruzzo.

If you would prefer not to fly you can also get the Eurostar overnight to Rome or Bologna via Paris. You will need to allow yourself extra time but you can add a stopover in one or more of these amazing cities to add an extra dimension to your holiday.

Ancona is another possibility (90 minutes from us) for air travel and if you are looking to have a week with us as part of a longer holiday in Italy you can fly / catch the train to any number of cities and hire a car - just contact us to ask for directions.

Travel from Rome

It is possible to get a train from Rome to Pescara but it is much quicker to take a coach from Tiburtina coach station (right next to Tiburtia train station) to Val Vomano (25 minutes from us) where we can arrange pick up.

Transfer from Rome's airports takes you to Termini which is the central train and metro station. From Fiumicino airport take the express train (costs 9.50, duration 30 minutes), from Tiburtina is on Metro Line B (the blue one) 4 stops north of Termini.

Direct buses are listed below, please note that if these times are not convenient there are additional services via L'Aquila which take 30 minutes longer (see

ARPA webiste

Atri and the neighbouring villages

Atri, our nearest town, is a charming place easy to explore on foot in half a day or more. It is thought to date from about 300 BC and boasts some impressive architecture including a 13th century cathedral as well as interesting museums, shops, cafes and restaurants. The views from the city walls extend more than 180 degrees from the sea to the east to the mountain ranges in the west.

Casoli is a quaint little village within easy reach of Shanticentre - a 10 minute bicycle ride or a good half hour walk. It has a lovely piazza with good coffee bars, a beautiful church and a little lane with large paintings on the walls of the houses, making it a very interesting place to visit.

The Coast

We are about 20 minutes drive from the Adriatic coast, where you can find sandy and stony beaches alike and even a nature reserve in Pineto, where the beach is lined with pine groves. This is where we like to do our special beach yoga session, followed by a picnic and some swimming, sunbathing and generally high quality relaxation.

The Mountains

We are about 40 minutes away from the foothills of the Apeninne mountain range but you only have to walk a few metres to see the mountains in thier glory! The beautiful Calanchi National Park just outside Atri is a great place where you can walk in nature with a stunning mountain backdrop. We can also arrange day trips to the mountains themselves, where you can relax, picnic and take in the wonderful fresh air.

Italy - Accomodation

The bedrooms are bright, spacious and beautifully decorated. Guests also have the use of a lounge complete with board games and books. The standard course price is based on 2 or 3 sharing bath and bedroom. All towels, bedding etc provided.
